i-charging Unveils Revolutionary Megawatt Charging System

i-light – Heavy Becomes Light

Porto, 18 September 2024 – i-charging, a leading innovator in electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, is pleased to announce the launch of its latest product for Megawatt Charging System (MCS), i-light. This revolutionary system represents a significant leap forward in EV charging, offering unparalleled power and efficiency to meet the demands of heavy-duty transport.

The name “i-light” reflects on a light design and great user experience. With capabilities of up to 1.5 MW in 250 kW increments and 98-99% efficiency, the i-light system has a unique 37″ glass display, visible right from the truck driver’s seat, ensuring easy monitoring of the charging process.

Pedro Moreira da Silva, CEO of i-charging, expressed the importance of this innovation: “With i-light, we are making a statement about the future of heavy-duty transport. Our goal is to provide a solution that addresses the critical need for faster, more efficient charging while supporting the broader transition to sustainable energy. The i-light is an important step in this journey, and we are incredibly proud to bring this technology to market”.

Key features of the i-light:

  • Power output: Delivers up to 1.5 MW in adjustable increments of 250 kW to meet different charging requirements.
  • Multi-output capability: Supports up to six simultaneous outputs, providing flexibility and efficiency when charging multiple vehicles.
  • Liquid Cooled Cables: Includes 3-metre liquid-cooled cables with options for longer lengths, ensuring optimum performance and safety.

Designed to redefine the standards for EV charging, the i-light charger not only promises faster charging times but also improves energy efficiency by converting a significant amount of electricity into usable energy. The i-light is designed to be able to use energy from low voltage grids or medium voltage grids, as is the case in high power installations, so saving on the substation and on footprint and cabling.

The i-light system is set to begin certification by 2025, once the MCS standards are published by ISO, IEC and SAE later this year. The first i-light chargers with MCS standard are expected to be delivered in 2025, marking a new era in EV charging technology. i-charging will offer a version of the i-light with CCS in the end of 2024, for trucks that are compatible with this standard.

i-charging has officially unveiled its Megawatt charger, i-light, at IAA Transportation, in Hanover.
